POSITION SUMMARY: 

Under the direction of the Director of Advancement, or designee, the Advancement Research Associate is responsible for conducting a variety of research activities to support the creation  and maintenance of  comprehensive profiles on current and potential donors.  Responsible for the creation  of research reports to support fundraising staff and the fundraising mission and goals of the Office of Advancement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop procedures, system guidelines and standard format for research profiles to assist fundraising staff in developing strategies for identification, qualification, cultivation and solicitation activities. Responsible for the preparation of accurate and detailed profiles about individuals, corporations and foundations, which enable  Advancement officers to  create comprehensive and effective solicitation strategically.
  • Assist in identifying potential donors for various fundraising priorities using verbal, written, and electronic information sources. Assist in rating of prospects and donors to determine the maximum potential of their philanthropy.
  • Responsible for a variety of research, data input, and donor profiling using the Advancement office database and on-line data retrieval systems. Interact with Advancement officers to ascertain their needs and to analyze the resource requirements necessary to complete those requirements. Work closely with the Advancement Database Analyst to develop research reports that meet the needs of frontline fundraising staff.
  • Provide ongoing training to Advancement staff on the broad spectrum of research capabilities. Report at monthly prospecting meetings on research activity and findings. Recommend individuals, corporations, and foundations who should be cultivated by frontline fundraisers.
  • Perform other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • Excellent research, written, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of computerized data bases and word processing
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with great attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to differentiate between important and irrelevant data
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment as being a member of the Advancement team
