GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

Academic Technology, in partnership with the University’s Simulation Center, has an exciting opportunity for an intern to join us at the intersection of technology and medical simulation. With the flexibility to simulate clinic rooms, inpatient facilities, disaster sites, and other health care settings, the UMMS’ interprofessional Center for Experiential Learning and Simulation (iCELS) is a resource for creating cutting edge teaching and assessment experiences. The IT Intern selected for this position will have a unique opportunity to learn and gain valuable skills in an elite academic and research institution that innovates in educational methodology and to help achieve the iCELS vision of ‘Better Outcomes Through Simulation.’  The iCELS offers 25,000 square feet of interactive and immersive technology focused on learning and quality improvement. Simulation educators and coordinators collaborate with faculty and community members using tools such as high-fidelity manikins, task trainers, standardized patients, 3D video, Anatomage, and 3D printing to build authentic and effective learning.

We seek an IT intern to join this dynamic team and to create virtual reality, 2 and 3D video learning modules. In addition, the intern will redesign our website to highlight our deep educational capacity for internal users and the broader public. 

By collaborating with faculty, learners, staff and community members and by gaining experience with a variety of simulation and educational technology tools and methods, The IT Intern will:

  1. Create specific VR, 2 and 3D video modules in accordance with provided specifications and goals;
  2. Design, direct and help to build an engaging representative website;
  3. Build and document formal processes to ensure sustainability of efforts after the internship is completed;
  4. Provide report outlining recommendations for the iCELS team to consider in the future related to the specific deliverables above

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Utilize innovative ideas and approaches to assist in the development of working models to serve the needs of our faculty, students and researchers
  • Complete a project from start to finish and write-up and present the work product to the UMass community
  • Participate in team projects
  • Conduct online research
  • Perform other duties as required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Must be a currently enrolled student in a higher education institution or recent graduate
  • Solid analytical and communication skills
  • Attention to detail with the ability to collect and record information from a wide variety of sources
  • Must be reliable and able to set consistent work hours
  • Proven interest in IT and passion in furthering the mission of UMMS
  • Must have above average academic performance

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated familiarity with VR, 2 and 3D production work and editing
  • Intermediate camera skills
  • Demonstrated experience in professional website design
  • Familiar with marketing best practices
  • A developing understanding of current trends and best practices in curriculum design
  • Ability to present information concisely across a variety of media
  • Outstanding listener with an attention to detail
  • Ability to execute projects and provide deliverables on time
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive and productive professional relationships
  • Emerging organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple assignments concurrently
  • Demonstrated experience being innovative, flexible, engaging and empowered throughout the delivery cycle
  • Demonstrated commitment at the individual and team level
  • Influences others and can be influenced through character, humility, and example
