POSITION SUMMARY: 

Under the general supervision of the Director of Financial Aid, the Associate Director of Financial Aid is responsible for managing financial wellness counseling and education and overseeing the financial aid processes for the School of Medicine population at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.           

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversee the development of the financial wellness program for all students; including but not limited to, operations and activities such as classes, workshops, advertising, and special events related to financial wellness and debt management/loan repayment.
  • Develop financial wellness and education learning material and curriculum
  • Manage student financial wellness program
  • Monitor financial issues and concerns affecting various student populations and develop relevant educational programs and materials
  • Provide support to students through personal consultation
  • Maintain office hours at our regional Baystate Campus in Springfield MA twice weekly
  • Oversee the creation of a communication strategy, including social media presence, to promote financial wellness to the student community
  • Coordinate and conduct all exit counseling and first-time borrower workshops. Collaborate with schools to ensure all student borrowers receive mandatory loan counseling prior to graduation
  • Manage the yearly student financial aid application process, perform need analysis and prepare awards for all School of Medicine students
  • Assist in the management and maintenance of the PowerFAIDS database
  • Assist in the preparation of various office, institutional and external reports
  • Provide students and prospective students with current information about financial aid and related programs individually and at open houses and workshops
  • Perform other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3-5 years related work experience
  • Demonstrated experience developing educational materials
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student loan programs, financial wellness and financial aid, credit concepts.
  • Ability to travel to offsite locations

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with PowerFAIDS or other financial aid software applications
  • Supervisory experience
