GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under the direction of the Director, the Speech and Language Pathology Consultant will provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to children, teach residents and fellows normal and abnormal language development, advocate for services for children and participate in the development of programs for children with DD and their families as a member of the LEND team.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist LEND Director and Associate Director in planning, implementing, coordinating and assuring supervision of all training programs in assigned areas.
  • Work with colleagues to implement the interdisciplinary curriculum.
  • Define appropriate criteria for and assist in recruitment of trainees in one's discipline.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the program and professional entities.
  • Assist in the professional development of professionals in assigned areas.
  • Engage in scholarly activities related to leadership, research and / or training in MCH.
  • Provide technical assistance and consultation to community-based programs.
  • Provide leadership for other disciplines in the program.
  • Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary faculty, develop and maintain training relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Perform other duties as required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree or PHD in speech/language pathology
  • Minimum of five (5) years clinical experience with at least 2 years of pediatric experience.
  • Knowledge/experience in interdisciplinary assessment/program planning to children with ASD/DD and families. Leadership in defining needs of children ASD/DD and their families.
  • Experience/skills in teaching and curriculum planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of typical and atypical growth and development.
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise/leadership; participation in professional organizations.
  • Licensure and certification in speech/language pathology as appropriate.
  • Work with PIHC program leadership to develop the training curriculum for both didactic and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Work with colleagues to implement the interdisciplinary curriculum, including direct teaching in the PIHC program.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the program and professional entities.
  • Engage in scholarly activities related to leadership, research and / or training in MCH.
  • Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary faculty, develop and maintain training relationships with internal and external partners, including guest speakers, other UMMS faculty, and community practicum sites.
  • Oversee recruitment/outreach activities and coordinate recruitment of scholars, including organizing interviews, interface with HR re: on-boarding. Coordinate all learning, clinical, and administrative aspects of the program. Maintain website content about the program.
  • Participate in grant writing/fundraising activities to ensure program sustainability.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching, and support to PIHC scholars.
