GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

Under the general direction of the Sr. Director of Finance or designee, works independently to oversee all aspects of preparing various finance related surveys, analyses and reports.  Provides expertise to acquire, manage, manipulate and analyze data and produce reports.  Primary responsibilities include managing the process for and completing the work to gather, analyze and interpret financial and benchmark data, prepare reports and surveys as requested by University management, federal agencies, state offices, associations and others, as well as for internal projects and forecasting, using PC and database tools.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Generally responsible for managing the process and completing the work to gather, maintain, compile, interpret, analyze and report on various data to support planning and reporting requirements
  • Proactively manage the processes for the completion of various finance related surveys, analyses and reports including tracking due dates, determining what is needed to complete them and scheduling of work to ensure timely completion
  • Produce operational reports using a General Ledger-based report writer, interpret data and develop recommendations based on findings
  • Design and implement data gathering procedures and design and maintain necessary files and databases necessary to support analysis and reporting needs
  • Develop models for analysis of historical trends and projection of future trends
  • Study and design benchmark data to be used for financial comparisons and peer studies
  • Identify problematic areas and determine the best course of action to correct the data
  • Respond to requests from President’s Office and other internal and external parties for financial information and analyses
  • Manage the collection and reporting of information for various surveys and inquiries regarding financial data
  • Act as project manager by organizing, coordinating, managing and producing reports, studies and surveys for other special projects as assigned
  • Assist with other projects as needed, including financial analyses and annual and long range budgeting and planning
  • Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, economics or other relevant major, or equivalent
  • 8 years’ experience in financial reporting, analysis, budgeting or related field,
  • Extensive experience using computers with proven in-depth knowledge of common business software applications (Microsoft Access and Excel)
  • Proven ability to work with various databases to query, extract and analyze data preferred
  • Ability to think creatively and analyze data from new perspectives
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize tasks to determine what needs to be done and ensure necessary work is completed to meet various deadlines
  • Ability to work independently according to priority and projects
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management
