The Department of Neurobiology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School is seeking a highly motivated Post Doctoral Associate.  Our lab is currently focused on a novel viral-like signaling pathway needed for synaptic plasticity. There are several ongoing and potential projects that can be discussed, ranging from understanding how extracellular vesicles are loaded to exploring how an endogenous retrovirus (transposable element) is involved in synaptic plasticity.  There are numerous cutting-edge core facilities that will be available to the successful candidate(s), as well as exposure to world leaders in RNA-biology, vesicular trafficking and synapse formation.

We are a multidiscipline lab; therefore, the successful candidate must be willing to adapt to new techniques as they become available.

Please refer to Ashley et al. Cell 2018 Jan 11;172(1-2):262-274 for an introduction to our current research.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

PhD with training in genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, deep sequencing, bioinformatics, and cell biology. Experience with Drosophila and mammalian cell culture preferred.

TO APPLY:

Applicants should send a CV along with the names of three references to travis.thomson@umassmed.edu. Candidates who have a research plan that fits into our current interests will be given higher priority.
