GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

 

Under the general direction of the Director of Compensation or designee, the Senior Compensation Analyst will provide strategic compensation and total rewards guidance and consultation to UMMS managers and Human Resources in support of the HR People Strategy.  Work closely with the HR Talent Team to support our talent and engagement strategy from the compensation perspective, assist managers with compensation and performance management/merit planning.  Develop and build relationships with all levels of management for assigned business areas to gain support for compensation initiatives and achieve results.

The Senior Compensation Analyst / Partner will analyze a variety of compensation and employee data to assist managers in meeting the organization’s needs. This individual will be integral in educating and training managers on the UMMS competency model, conducting market analysis for new and existing roles, support recruiters with compensation offers, manage the job evaluation and classification process, review workforce and compensation analytics with managers and respond to compensation-related questions from managers, HR colleagues and recruiters.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Play a key role in the design, development and implementation of compensation and total rewards strategies that support the needs of the assigned UMMS business units.
  • Perform analytical studies in a variety of compensation areas, such as internal and external equity, competitive pay practices, incentive compensation, and emerging trends.
  • Lead the organizational/position classification process in conjunction with reorganizations, re-engineering efforts, acquisitions, mergers, etc.
  • Lead the competitive analysis function for UMMS positions, including executive compensation.
  • Research and identify appropriate survey resources to develop a robust survey library to enhance market data available for competitively positioning UMMS jobs.
  • Research a variety of compensation issues and recommend solutions, policies, procedures, corrective action, etc.
  • Investigate and recommend solutions to pay inequities and recommend the grading of positions.  Present recommendations to management, Labor Relations, and union representatives where appropriate.
  • Review and recommend the approval of a variety of compensation actions such as promotions, above guideline job offers, off cycle pay increases, etc.
  • Assist in ensuring the fair and consistent administration of compensation programs within client organizations.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of new processes and automated tools to include the research and recommendation of new technologies that will better service the UMMS organization.
  • Using process improvement methods, work with the Compensation team to continuously review and improve UMMS compensation practices, provide recommendations for improvement and assist with implementation and communication of changes.
  • Serve as a key support member of the Compensation Review Committee for assigned business units and act as a key resource in the design of the Compensation Review committee for non-assigned business units.
  • Provide input for the development of educational/training programs for managers and employees.
  • At the time of position vacancy, discuss succession planning and human capital organizational design with managers as it relates to compensation issues when appropriate.
  • Assist with the design and delivery of the UMMS core competencies module.
  • Lead assigned major/complex projects in a variety of compensation-related areas.  Perform other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Human Resources, Organizational Development, or equivalent experience and six to ten years of compensation experience in a large organization.
  • Requires knowledge of compensation theory, principles and practices; wage and hour laws, superior analytical skills; excellent knowledge of spreadsheet applications and Microsoft Office products; and the ability to lead and manage complex projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, written and communication skills necessary to interact with all organizational levels.
  • PeopleSoft experience is a plus.
