GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

Under the general direction of the University of Massachusetts Medical School’s (UMMS) Associate Vice Chancellor for Management and the direct supervision of UMMS’ Senior Director of Compliance and Privacy, the Privacy and Compliance Analyst is responsible for assisting with the continual development and improvement of UMMS’ privacy and compliance program. 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist UMMS’ Senior Director of Compliance and Privacy with all aspects of UMMS’ Privacy and Compliance Program;
  • Manage the organization and retention of all relevant privacy and compliance documents and records, including but not limited to: policies, logs, databases, compliance communications, work plans, OOM staff meeting minutes, risk analyses and assessments, and posting of materials on the OOM intranet site;
  • Collaborate on the further development and improvement of annual Compliance Work Plan and activities as requested;
  • Support the development, editing, organizing, deployment and tracking of privacy and compliance training content and related communications and informational session materials;
  • Assist with the implementation of in-person remediation retraining at the request of business units to enhance staff privacy and compliance awareness and to ensure compliance with internal policies, contractual requirements and regulations;
  • Play a key role in organizing OOM initiatives and implementing needed changes to UMMS’ privacy and/or compliance procedures;
  • Document, review and analyze inadvertent disclosure logs for trends and areas of focus and improvement;
  • Maintain department databases, gather information, perform research and implement procedures to better identify, assess and minimize risks;
  • Assist OOM attorneys with the compilation and submission of responsive documents to Requests For Proposals, and other requests for information with guidance from the Associate Vice Chancellor for Management and the Senior Director of Compliance and Privacy;
  • Foster an open and collaborative compliance environment with UMMS business and research units which encourages reporting to OOM and requests for consultation;
  • Report data metrics that support program planning, prioritizes risk areas, and tracks resolutions;
  • Implement and evaluate program goals and objectives, and participate in and assist in implementing continuous quality improvement initiatives;
  • Collaborate with UMMS workforce, governmental agency contacts, and other organizations to improve client partnerships, business services and operations; and
  • Assist the Senior Director of Compliance and Privacy on special projects, and other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5-8 years of related experience
  • Proven administrative ability in complex business or legal environment
  • Superior oral and written communication skills and strong public speaking abilities

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in a related field
  • Certification in health care compliance, privacy or ethics
  • Knowledge of privacy and compliance practices and requirements
