 Specialty Pharmacist

 

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

Under the direction of the MassHealth Pharmacy Director or designee (Clinical Pharmacy Manager) the Specialty Pharmacist functions as a member of the Office of Clinical Affairs Pharmacy Program supporting MassHealth as part of the Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS).  The Specialty Pharmacist will assist in the development and management of a specialty pharmacy network, accountable care organization oversight and other pharmacy program initiatives.   The Specialty Pharmacist will have related skills and experience in specialty pharmacy management, the pharmacy benefit management (PBM) industry, and specialty pharmacy/PBM contracting. This position will also serve as a liaison to EOHHS sister agencies, Pharmacy Program providers, and the pharmaceutical industry, as necessary.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist Pharmacy Director in the development and management of a specialty drug pharmacy network
  • Identify market trends related to specialty pharmacy and proactively recommend adjustments as needed
  • Evaluate cost analyses and formulary recommendations for specialty medications
  • Provide Medicaid Accountable Care Organizations clinical support
  • Assist as needed with all MassHealth pharmacy initiatives
  • Work in collaboration with the UMass Drug Utilization Review (DUR) program regarding clinical impact on specialty pharmacy, accountable care organizations and pharmacy initiatives
  • Attend weekly MassHealth Pharmacy policy meetings and monthly DUR Board meetings and other meetings as required
  • Evaluate and interpret data and provide information in a usable format for review
  • Performs related duties as needed and as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Pharmacist
  • Five (5) or more years’ experience in the PBM industry
  • Experience with Specialty Pharmacy
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in: data analysis, project management and Microsoft Office Suite

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MPH, MBA or other Master’s degree
  • Experience in a variety of clinical products offered by PBM vendors
  • Experience with Medicaid
