GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under the general direction of the Controller or designee, the Accountant Supervisor gathers financial data, prepares financial analyses, and reconciliations. He or she will also manage the AP & AR coordinators. Other duties include providing analysis and reporting for special projects.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Utilize the general ledger, accounts payable and cashiering systems for tracking, reconciliation & reporting of income, expense and account balance activities.
- Provide guidance and manage both AP & AR staff.
- Prepare and/or monthly reconciliations for key accounts.
- Monthly reconcile/review intercompany accounts and eliminations.
- Prepare, review and/or approve monthly closing journal entries and activity.
- Assist in preparing, reviewing, and coordinating audit work papers and financial analysis for annual external audit
- Assist in the management of monthly close activities.
- Assist in coordinating year-end closing, the financial audit, and State audits.
- Assist in preparing: monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for senior management, the University, and the State as required.
- Provide accounting analysis and support to departments as required.
- Prepare periodic and ad hoc reports summarizing financial efforts and accomplishments for management review, analyzing and reporting on any significant variances.
- Recommend improvements to financial controls and reporting.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5 years in financial accounting & reporting, or related experience
- 3 years of experience in a supervisory capacity preferred
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret financial documents such as system reports at both account and summary levels
- Proficiency with general ledger functions and reports, PeopleSoft, Oracle or similar is preferred
- Experience and knowledge with consolidation/elimination accounting, and preparation of financial statements and footnotes for multi-business units Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar software with advanced MS Excel experience highly preferred
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and writing skills needed to present or communicate effectively with all levels of management
- Ability to work independently according to priority and current projects.
- Able to work effectively under tight deadlines.
