GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under the direction of a Faculty member, the Psychology Resident is a trainee who engages in one or two year periods of study in the psychology residency programs at UMass. These programs provide clinical experience required for specialization within an area of practice in Psychology (e.g., Family Medicine, Forensic Psychology, Neuropsychology).
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performance of clinical duties in training practicum rotations, including psychotherapy, assessment, consultation, and other duties, as dictated by the requirements of the Psychology Resident’s specific field of study
- Attendance at didactic seminars provided by the specialty residency program for Psychology Residents
- Attendance at multidisciplinary case conferences and other meetings relevant to the care of ongoing clinical cases.
- Completes clinical documentation (process notes, assessment reports, etc.) according to department procedures, and in a timely fashion
- Meets regularly with supervising psychologists in order to discuss on-going cases and clinical issues.
- Completion of scholarly projects, as dictated by requirements of the specialty residency program
- Assists with overseeing the work of psychology interns as well as other trainees, as required within that department/program.
- Perform other duties as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ph.D/Psy.D./Ed.D. degree in Clinical, Counseling or School Psychology as dictated by requirements of the Resident’s specific field of study
- Completion of one year of Internship training in area of clinical specialization
- Specific competencies in psychotherapy, psychological/neuropsychological assessment, consultation, and/or research, as dictated by the requirements of the Resident’s specific field of study
- Excellent command of verbal and written English
- Outstanding interpersonal skills
- Judgment and action skills required to solve commonly encountered problems

Under the direction of the Residency Director
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Train and/or co-supervise interns and other trainees, as assigned

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Post-doctoral residents in neuropsychology will spend the majority of their time engaged in outpatient neuropsychological assessment, with a clinical load of 4-5 clinics weekly. They will also carry a small caseload of psychotherapy patients with comorbid medical and psychiatric disorders. As available, they may also assist with adult and pediatric epilepsy surgery protocols, including intraarterial amobarbital (Wada) procedures and intraoperative language mapping. These clinical experiences will be balanced with didactic teaching, supervision, and research experiences in order to meet Houston Conference guidelines for Neuropsychology Training.
