GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

Information Technology at The University of Massachusetts Medical School has a unique opportunity for an Intern to develop an intelligent bot to help the health care community.

 

The goal of this project is to develop a bot using artificial intelligence (AI) and language understanding service (LUIS) along with Cortana (and other digital agents) to help the UMMS community find the information they need quickly and easily. This will enable individuals to quickly find information regarding commonly asked questions or issues without having to dig through a web site, submit a support ticket or try to find the right person.

 

Creative contributors apply! You will be mentored by and work closely with the web development team. Skills acquired: team collaboration, developing and deploying to the cloud, working with version control, exposed to an agile environment for project management, MS chatbot framework, LUIS, Cortana skill set.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilize innovative ideas and approaches to assist in the development of working models to serve the needs of our faculty, students and researchers
  • Complete a project from start to finish and write-up and present the work product to the UMass community
  • Participate in team projects
  • Conduct online research
  • Perform other duties as required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a currently enrolled student in a higher education institution or recent graduate
  • Solid analytical and communication skills
  • Attention to detail with the ability to collect and record information from a wide variety of sources
  • Must be reliable and able to set consistent work hours
  • Proven interest in IT and passion in furthering the mission of UMMS
  • Must have above average academic performance

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Outstanding communicator who can present information concisely to team, other developers, other groups, product management, etc
  • An established track record of delivering on commitments
  • Experience with C# (or equivalent), JavaScript, Node.js
  • Knowledge/Experience with bots/apps for platforms like Facebook Messenger, Slack, etc.
  • Knowledge on MVC, SQL, Mongo would be an added advantage.
  • Experience with source control (git, Subversion, etc)
  • Exposure to working with the cloud
  • Experience working with APIs, integrating data from various back-end services and databases
  • Experience with writing test plans and documentation
  • A passion for achieving results on time through the application of technology to business opportunities
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive and productive professional relationships
  • Possesses positive attitude and creativity
  • Emerging organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple assignments concurrently
  • Demonstrated experience being innovative, flexible, engaging and empowered throughout the delivery cycle.
