The Senior Engineer Storage System Administrator’s role is to operate and performance-tune storage platforms across the organization to ensure high levels of data quality, availability, and security. This individual also participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure storage provisioning, efficiency, and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.

  

The Senior Engineer Storage System Administrator is also responsible to plan, design, and analyze the organization’s storage infrastructure according to best practices, while ensuring high levels of data quality and availability. This individual will develop, implement, and oversee policies and procedures to ensure consistent storage provisioning, uptime, and regulatory compliance. This individual is also responsible for capacity planning, backup and restores process design, performance analysis, and developing data disaster recovery plans.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under the direction of the Manager of Systems Engineering, provides third level support to end users
  • Develop procures, install, and maintain the company’s internal data processing hardware and software operating systems
  • Involved in the implementation and maintenance of major subsystems
  • Acknowledge and resolve user service requests utilizing the service request management system
  • Frequently contributes to the development of new theories and methods
  • Develop resolutions to complex problems that require frequent use of creativity, use judgment within defined policies
  • Contribute to the development of organizational goals and objectives
  • Represent the organization as the principle customer contact
  • Perform project leadership duties
  • Provide input for recruiting and performance evaluation
  • Perform other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, or equivalent experience.
  • 6  years of related work experience including  project management  
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel to off-site locations

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Solid experience architecting enterprise storage, archival/backup, and DRP systems with a broad spectrum of storage technologies, especially with EMC and Netapp product lines
  • Excellent knowledge of SAN, NAS, DAS, RAID, SCSI, Fibre Channel, tape, clustering, encryption, content-addressable storage
  • Knowledge of Linux/Windows and VMware operating system interactions with both local and enterprise storage devices is a plus, including knowledge of the configuration and maintenance of these systems as an enterprise storage client
  • Experience with administering and supporting enterprise backup solutions, especially with Commvault, is preferred.

Additional Information:

  • Lead the development of long-term vision, strategy, and roadmaps for storage servers and databases across the organization in conjunction with company objectives including but not limited to developing strategies and policies to ensure best-practice based regulatory compliance and reduce the enterprise’s legal exposure
  • Work closely with operations, project management, application development, network security and servers teams to develop scalable, maintainable, consistent, highly available storage architectures that meet business objectives and set relevant service-level agreements
  • Perform capacity planning analysis and other needs assessments to inform storage architecture strategy
  • Establish strategies for storage consolidation, centralization, and optimization to reduce downtime and costs while improving security and storage performance
  • Design redundant systems and policies for disaster recovery and archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of storage appliances and stored data assets including procedures for backups and restores of large storage appliances
  • Develop and maintain procedures for storage change management, availability management, backup management, incident management, and process documentation
  • Follow change control, incident response, and testing processes for modifications to storage appliances and software Anticipate, mitigate, identify, respond to, and resolve issues with storage devices, storage access, and data retrieval
  • Perform storage server/database transaction and security audits leading to identification and mitigation of security threats to enterprise data. Recommend and implement changes where necessary
